Are you a publisher?
Kinda! Right now, this is just the little brand that I (Bethany Baker) self-publish under. That’s why I call it a “mini imprint” or “micro imprint.”
You’ll also see books by my spicy horror pen name (Adeline Alchemy) and potentially some anthologies in the future. I have aspirations to expand someday into editing and art services!
Are you accepting submissions?
No, but maybe someday! If your vibe vibes with our vibe, be sure to follow us on Instagram or subscribe for free to be notified if Demon Cat Press ever hosts an anthology or opens for submissions.
What’s your stance on generative AI?
We’re staunchly against generative AI. Generative AI refers to types of AI models that generate content–such as generating an image from a prompt, generating paragraphs from an outline, or producing a chat experience to “analyze” writing samples.
Generative AI models require huge amounts of training data, most of which was stolen from creatives without consent or compensation. Furthermore, the environmental impact of generative AI is massive. I don’t leave my faucet running when I brush my teeth, and I certainly have no interest in contributing to the massive water usage of gen AI server farms.
Every Demon Cat Press work comes with a “From Scratch Guarantee”: generative AI is not used at any point in any creative process (ideating, outlining, writing, designing, branding, marketing, editing, etc). We also take pains to avoid use of stock elements derived from generative AI.
What about other types of AI and Machine Learning?
It’s important to note that generative AI is not the same as other ML/AI (machine learning / artificial intelligence) technologies. Tech companies are muddying the water by rebranding anything and everything to “AI” in an effort to capitalize on the hype. ML (machine learning) technologies have been around for over a decade and power many useful tools such as spelling/grammar check and automatic image background removal. These tools do not have the same environmental and ethical problems as generative AI, and may be used in our creative processes.
Where does your character art come from?
All art is either commissioned from human artists who do not use AI in their creative process (to the best of our vetting ability) or created “in-house” (i.e. by me, Bethany Baker). Book pages and social media posts should all credit the artist, unless my ADHD got the better of me, in which case the artist is often credited in the comments or in other posts with the same art!
The author icons for both Bethany Baker and Adeline Alchemy are by Avis Raveni. I have commercial rights for these images, so they may not always be credited in every place they’re used.
If you see cell-shaded character art not credited in the description or comments of a post, it’s most likely a Bethany Baker original. Between ADHD and being a little shy, I might not always advertise “I MADE THIS” on every post. 😅
Do you distribute Advance Review Copies (ARCs)?
Yes! We distribute eBook Advance Review Copies (eARCs) for most releases.
Subscribe to the Monster Munchies newsletter to be the first to hear when new review copies are available.
You can also apply for our review teams via BookSprout:
- Bethany Baker’s Team (Sweet & Spicy Monster Romance)
- Adeline Alchemy’s Team (Cozy-Spicy Horror)
Are your books in Kindle Unlimited (KU)?
Select books are available in KU.
Most series are available “wide” (on multiple eBook stores), which means they’re not eligible for KU. If they’re not in KU, they’re in Kobo Plus!
Some series, like Femalpha Fatales, are exclusive to Kindle/KU, but are available elsewhere in paperback.
Are your books in Kobo Plus?
Yes, most titles are available in Kobo Plus.
Unless a series is exclusive to Kindle/KU (like Femalpha Fatales) then it’s available in Kobo Plus.
