Twenty years ago, the cataclysm destroyed Earth. Humans were whisked away to safety by the Intergalactic Coalition of Sapient Species, given homes in city ships across the galaxy, and offered satisfying work suitable to their skills. Some of that work is quite unusual—like being a hucow on Zairion Prime, supplying calcium-rich nutrition to the planet’s centaur-like half-bug Arthropoids.

Some aren’t satisfied with the impersonal sanctioned clinics. There are Arthropoids looking for pets to pamper, and human women looking for an escape from the pasts that haunt them.

The most surprising side effect?

Falling in love.
